Egg Cost Calculator

Enter the eggs you collect, what you spend on feed and supplies, and, if you like, your coop and birds. See what a dozen of your eggs costs.

Free, no signup. The calculator runs in your browser, and we don't save what you type.

Use a typical recent week. Laying slows in winter and during molt, so your cost per dozen changes through the year.

Feed

Count all the feed you buy: layer feed, scratch, grower.

Bedding, grit and oyster shell, treats, cartons, and electricity for heat or lights.

Spread out one-time costs

A store price, or the price you sell at.

Results

Add the eggs you collect in a week.

Cost per dozen is your monthly costs divided by the dozens you collect in a month (a month here is 365 ÷ 12 days). One-time costs are spread evenly over the years you expect them to last. Your time isn't counted.

Common questions

What counts as a cost?

Feed and the supplies you buy each month. Coop and birds count if you choose to spread them out. Your time isn't counted.

Why does my cost go up in winter?

Hens lay fewer eggs in short days and during molt, but they still eat. The same feed spread over fewer dozens costs more per dozen.

Does this save my numbers?

No. The calculator does its math in your browser. What you type in it isn't sent to us, and we don't save it.

Is this tax or business advice?

No. It's arithmetic on the numbers you enter. It doesn't cover taxes or the rules on selling eggs where you live.
